General Managers Update - Friday 5th March, 2010

Mothers Day: the club will be holding its' traditional Mother's Day Carvery on Sunday 14th March 2010, the menu is as follows:
  • Classic Caesar Salad or Roasted Vegetable Soup
  • Three meat Carvery:
    • Slow roasted Top Side of Beef Marinated in Wholegrain Mustard
    • Honey Roasted Ham
    • Roast Devonshire Turkey Cooked with Thyme & Cranberry
    • A selection of Seasonal vegetables and Potatoes, Yorkshire Pudding & Jus
  • Creme Brulee with Shortbread Biscuits or a Selection of Cheese & Biscuits 
There are two sittings, subject to numbers, at 12.30 and 16.00; the sign up sheet is on the social events notice board.
 
On the same day the St Patrick's Day Texas Scramble is taking place, it is the normal format of one lady and three gentlemen with each player taking a minimum of four drives. The cost is £6.50 per person and includes a bacon bap and a tea or coffee. The sign up sheet is on the notice board in the players' corridor.
 
We will again be holding a St Patrick's Day celebration in the club on Wednesday 17th March 2010. Through out the day we will be serving the following St Patrick's Day Meal:
Gleeson's Hand made trio of pork and leek sausages, served with creamy champ potato and lashings of whole grain mustard gravy with caramelised onions this will be on sale at £5.95
Through out the day we will have the Christie Moore CD Live from Dublin playing in the bar area.
 
As you will have seen in Rod Jones' email last week the club is having a major membership drive, this is being lead by Steve Hunt. The offer we currently have is for full 7 day adult membership for the equivalent of £17 per week; this is currently being advertised at the entrance to the club. This offer will only be open till the end of March 2010 so if you know of anyone who would like to join the club please make sure they contact myself or Steve as soon as possible.  
 
As you will have heard at the AGM, during the third week in March we are running a member's week when the staff will be organising the following events to thank the membership for their continued support:
  • Tuesday 23rd March: Tuesday Players 10th Anniversary stableford competition, tee off from 9.30 till 11.00, this will be followed by prize giving and refreshments at around 2 pm.  This is open to all members who normally play on a Tuesday.
  • Wednesday 24th March: Ladies 10th Anniversary stableford competition, tee off from 9.00 am, this will be followed by prize giving and refreshments, time to be confirmed.
  • Thursday 24th March: Thursday's Players 10th Anniversary stableford competition, tee off from 11.30 till 13.00, this will be followed by prize giving and refreshments, time to be confirmed.  This is open to all members who normally play on a Thursday.
  • Saturday 27th March: Weekend Players 10th Anniversary stableford competition, tee times from 7.30 onwards, details of refreshment and prize giving times to be confirmed.  This is open to all members who play at the weekend.
  • Monday 29th March: Vets 10th Anniversary Harare Mixed competition, tee off times from 8 am, refreshments and prize giving 1.30pm.  This is open to everyone who plays in the mixed vets competitions through out the year.

Following on from the success of the Rebellion Smuggler beer we have decided to continue offering a Rebellion product in both bars. Smuggler is no longer being promoted by Rebellion so we have replaced this with IPA which will be on sale this weekend.  We now have cooling packs for the Rebellion products as well as Rebellion glasses to further improve the way we serve the product.
 
Men's Fixtures 2010: For the current year we have arranged a number of friendly matches against other clubs, the matches are at varied times (weekends and week days) and are open to all male members who hold an official handicap. The dates will be published shortly however, if you want to register your interest to play email Chris Spencer at Chris.Spencer37@ntlworld.com, or add your name to the list on the notice board in the players' corridor. 
 
We have entered a team in the Daily Mail Classic Competition the format is single matchplay and the team consists of 5 players with a handicap limit of 18, again, please contact Chris if you are interested in joining this team. 
 
We have also entered a team in the Hillman Trophy Competition, the format is singles matchplay and the team is 3 players with handicaps between 6 and 9, and 4 players with handicaps between 10 and 20. All players need to be over 18. Again if you are interested in playing contact Chris Spencer.
 
The Men's Knockout Entry has been extended to the 22nd March, 2010.
 
Douglas Bader Mixed Competition:  This is being held on Easter Monday the 5th April.
 
Pro Shop:  Cobra and Benross 2010 Demo Clubs are now available in the Pro Shop so if you fancy some new clubs come and try them out.  The new 2010 range of Footjoy golf shoes are also available and if you don't find the style you want we can order a pair for you.  We also have the Garmin GPS Distance Finder in stock at a very reasonable price.  Call in at the Pro Shop to arrange a free trial.  Under Armour Thermal Wear is now 30% off.
 
As we are a Clubmark accredited sports club we can this year participate in the Sainsbury's Active Kids scheme.  So if you shop or buy your petrol at Sainsbury's please collect the Active Kids Vouchers and hand them into the Pro Shop.  If we collect sufficient vouchers we can get some coaching equipment for young golfers.
 
Board Update:  All members are invited to a briefing session on Thursday the 25th March at 7:30 pm.  Come and hear the latest news and get answers to your questions.  The Greens Committee will also be updating members regarding the Bunker Project.  On the same evening we will have a Pub Night with Pub Food on offer during the evening.  After the Board Update come along to the Trophy Room where a number of Pub Games will be set up.  How good are you at Darts, Shove Ha'penny and the like? We will be offering the following refreshments throughout the evening:
  • Gleeson's large home made sausage hot dogs £2.95
  • Home made curried beef burger served with spicy mayo in a floured bap £4.50
