Luke Donald Update
What a week for both Luke Donald and Hazlemere Golf Club, the events around the week unfolded as follows:
Wednesday 16th November - Sky Sports reporter Emily Marshall and a cameraman spent 5 hours at the club filming both the course and interviews with members in readiness for last week's 'Race to Dubai'.
Wednesday 7th December - Two cameramen from BBC visit the club to take a picture of the 'Where it all began' photograph and a photograph of a number of Past Captains with Luke and the Walker Cup. There is a very strong possibility that these will be shown as part of the Sports Personality of the Year Award programme [see below]. Thank you and well done to Garry Hartley who got the contact at the BBC.
Thursday 8th and Friday 9th December - The Bucks Free Press and the Advertiser group of newspapers run our press release announcing Luke Donald sending us a photograph inscribed To Hazlemere Golf Club 'Where it all began' best wishes Luke Donald. The advertiser group also included a picture of Garry and Gilly our Club and Ladies' Captains.
Thursday 8th December - At 8:00am Sky coverage of the Dubai event starts, at 8.02 the commentator whilst talking about Luke takes the viewer's back to 'Where it all began' a number of views of our golf course are shown.
Saturday 10th December - At approximately 11:00am an interview with Luke is broadcast as part of the Dubai event during which he mentions Hazlemere Golf Club and expresses his gratitude to the club for allowing him to join as a 9 year old. Throughout the interview film of Hazlemere Golf Club, the course, the club house and various shots of course signs, pictures etc. are shown.
Saturday 10th December - I receive a text from Emily Marshall [Sky reporter] informing me that the unused footage and interviews of members of the club will be used in another programme sometime in the New Year [details to follow].
Sunday 11th December - Luke secures 3rd place in the Dubai event and creates history by being the World No 1 golfer and winning both the European & US money list in the same year.
Monday 12th December - At 9.30am Sky reporter Jamie Weir, Helen Foster live Producer plus a cameraman and a satellite van, to transmit live coverage back to the sky studio, arrive at the golf club. Safety on the Course
Following a recent accident where a member slipped on the bank coming off the 8th green and broke an ankle and wrist the Board & Management have made two area of the course 'Ground Under Repair' (GUR) because of the abnormal ground conditions in these areas - they are very slippery and/or muddy. These are the banks to the 8th & 17th greens and there are dropping zones for each of these greens so members' can take relief, without penalty, if their ball comes to rest in these GUR areas. There are also scoops for retrieving your ball so you do need not walk on the banks to get your ball. For your own safety we urge all members not to enter these GUR areas - being careful does not guarantee not slipping and having an accident.
