Please find below the Update for this week ~ 13th November, 2009
A warm welcome to the following new members who have joined the club since my last update:
Brendan Bailey has joined us as a £300 card member.
Denise James and Patricia Bryant have joined as social members.
Annual General Meeting: The AGM of the club was held on Thursday 5th November and was attended by 95 shareholding members, after the meeting very positive feed back was received from those attending the meeting, particularly about the up date on the club's strategy and plans going forward. We will be holding a Members Briefing on Tuesday the 17th November at 7.00 pm for all non share holding members. Any shareholding member who missed the AGM and wants to hear about all the exciting things we have planned for the club are more than welcome to attend.
Following on from the AGM I am pleased to welcome the following members who have volunteered to sit on the various committees and help us to continue to improve the members and guest experience on both the golf course and in the club house:
Toni Bourne has been appointed Director of House, replacing Dougie Vance who stepped down after 3 years of exceptional service to the club.
Terry Coulson is the new Club Captain, Olive Vance is the new Ladies' Captain and Josh Stanners is the new Junior Captain, we wish Terry, Olive and Josh well for their year of office.
The following members make up the golf committee together with Terry and Olive:

I would like to thank the following members who served on committees last year and have stepped down: Dan Richards and Peter Lock for their contribution to the Greens Committee and Adrian Armitage and David Grace for their contribution to the Golf Committee. A special word of thanks is due to Helen Armitage who has stepped down as Junior Organiser, the result of Helen's hard work is there for all to see, the juniors have been very successful during her period in office. A word of thanks on behalf of all the members goes to Geoff Blofield, Carol Line, John Elliston and Emily Marley for their work as Captains of the various section of the club.
New Bunker Project: The Greens Committee, the CLUB Captain, the Club Management and the Board have agreed in principle to undertake a project to upgrade all of the bunkers on the course. The Greens Committee and Club Management have drawn up an initial proposal in order for the membership to have a better understanding of how the project will impact the course. The next stage of the project is to incorporate feedback from the membership via briefings to the various sections of the club.
Terry Coulson has kindly decided to have the bunker project as his fund raising focus for the year, the Special Projects Team have agreed that all of their fund raising activity will go towards the project and the Board have kindly agreed to match the amount raised via the membership to finance the project.
Timing of the project will depend of the success of the fund raising, the club's financial performance and the prevailing weather conditions when the work is undertaken. It is estimated that this may take between 3 and 5 years.
The project is at a very early stage therefore, not every question can be answered. The outline plan, which is on display in the club bar, is intended to give the membership an understanding of what is proposed and will enable fund raising to begin.
New Year's Eve Party: Tickets are now on sale in the office - the price is £42.50 per person, we still have 3 tables left plus a number of spaces on other tables. Booking is open to both members and member's guests. A menu is on the
Social Events page on the website and in the players' corridor.
Christmas Party time is fast approaching, we still have a number of places left particularly on Thursday the 17th December. Full details are on the
Christmas Celebrations page of the web site and also available for the office.
As we are now going into the Christmas season we will not be offering the Friday Night Dinning Service from the 30th November until the end of December, service will resume on the 8th January.
Date for your diary: we will be holding a Members Christmas Carvery on Sunday 13th December, a menu and sign up sheet will be available in due course.
Congratulations to the following teams/members that have enjoyed golfing success over recent weeks:
Josh Stanners competed in Nick Faldo Series Grand Final in Rio de Janeiro on the 28th to 30th October. This was a 54 Hole competition over three days had 70 boys and girls from all over the world competing to be the Champion of their category. Josh, one of 17 boys in the Under 16 category, came a very creditable 4th place with a gross 228 for the three rounds. Well done Josh you did us proud!
Well done to members that represented the club in the Oxfordshire Foursomes league for winning section 4 of the competition. Course Signage: I am pleased to announce that new course planner, tee stands for each hole and a welcome board will be installed next week weather permitting.
